Adhyaya 70 — The King Confronts the Rakshasa and Restores the Brahmin’s Wife

ततः स राजातिभृशं विषण्णः समजायत ॥
mārkaṇḍeya uvāca vaikalyoccāraṇāt tasya brāhmaṇasya mahāmateḥ | tataḥ sa rājātibhṛśaṃ viṣaṇṇaḥ samajāyata ||
Mārkaṇḍeya berkata: “Setelah mendengar tentang kecacatan brahmana yang berhati luhur itu, raja pun menjadi amat dukacita.”

A righteous ruler is pained by the suffering of the dharmic (here, a brāhmaṇa and the integrity of sacrifice). Compassion becomes the seed of corrective action.
Narrative-dharma (upākhyāna) supporting ethical ideals of kingship; not a direct pancalakṣaṇa segment.
The king’s ‘viṣāda’ can be read as the awakening of conscience; inner disquiet arises when the protective order (dharma) is perceived as wounded.
