Adhyaya 61 — The Second Manvantara Begins: The Brahmin’s Swift Journey and Varuthini’s Temptation on Himavat
aho ramyataraḥ svargo na yato dvija-nandana | ato vayaṃ parityajya tiṣṭhāmo 'tra surālayam ||
“Ah!

The verse presents a classic dharmic test: pleasant circumstances can imitate ‘svarga’ and thereby displace obligation. Pleasure is not denied, but it is shown as rhetorically powerful enough to derail duty.
Not pancalakṣaṇa; it is an ethical-psychological illustration within narrative.
‘Surālayam’ can symbolize refined states of experience (subtle enjoyments). Even elevated pleasures can be obstacles when they become substitutes for one’s svadharma.
