Adhyaya 27 — Madālasa’s Instruction to King Alarka: Royal Ethics, Self-Conquest, and Statecraft

पूर्णेन्दुमालोक्य यथा प्रीतिमान् जायते नरः ।

एवं यत्र प्रजाः सर्वा निर्वत्ता स्तच्छशिव्रतम् ॥

Transliteration

pūrṇendum ālokya yathā prītimān jāyate naraḥ | evaṃ yatra prajāḥ sarvā nirvattās tac chaśi-vratam ||

Translation

Sebagaimana seseorang bergembira melihat bulan purnama, demikianlah (cita-cita) apabila semua rakyat berpuas hati dan teguh kehidupannya—itulah “ikrar seperti Bulan” (cara pemerintahan berwatak Bulan).
