सवनिताननादृत्य दृष्टवा तमतिमानिनम्‌ | तस्य मुर्थ्नि पतिष्यामि तत एते पराजिता:,अर्जुनने कहा--सारथे! धनुषसे बाण चलानेपर वह जितनी दूरीपर जाकर गिरता है, कौरवसेनासे उतना ही अन्तर रह जाय, तो घोड़ोंको रोक लेना; जिससे मैं यह देख लूँ कि इस सेनामें वह कुरुकुलाधम दुर्योधन कहाँ है। उस अत्यन्त अभिमानी दुर्योधनको देख लेनेपर मैं इन सब योद्धाओंको छोड़कर उसीके सिरपर पड़ूँगा। उसके पराजित होनेसे ये सब परास्त हो जायूँगे

savanitān anādṛtya dṛṣṭvā tam atimāninam | tasya mūrdhni patiṣyāmi tata ete parājitāḥ ||

Arjuna berkata: “Tanpa menghiraukan yang lain, sebaik sahaja aku melihat lelaki yang teramat angkuh itu, akan kupukul tepat ke kepalanya. Apabila dia ditewaskan, yang lain semuanya juga akan tewas.”

The verse highlights a moral-psychological point in warfare and leadership: arrogance (atimāna) becomes a focal weakness, and the fall of a proud leader can collapse the morale and cohesion of the whole force. It also reflects the kṣatriya ethic of confronting the principal instigator rather than wasting effort on lesser opponents.

In the Virāṭa context, Arjuna (in disguise as Bṛhannalā) prepares to face the Kauravas. He declares that he will ignore the other fighters and, upon spotting the over-proud Duryodhana, will concentrate his assault on him; once Duryodhana is overcome, the rest will be effectively routed.
