The verse reinforces kṣatriya-dharma: a warrior-prince must not yield to fear or despondency in the face of enemies; courage and steadiness are ethical obligations tied to honor and duty.
Vaiśampāyana, as narrator, reports an exhortation addressed to a princely warrior who has become fearful amid enemies; the speaker rebukes the lapse into despair and reminds him of his warrior identity and expected valor.
