Kṛpa’s Counsel and a Discourse on Statecraft
तत्र तात न तेषां हि राज्ञां भाव्यमसाम्प्रतम्,“तात! जिस नगर या राष्ट्रमें राजा युधिष्ठिर निवास करते होंगे, वहाँके राजाओंका अकल्याण नहीं हो सकता। जहाँ राजा युधिष्ठिर होंगे, उस जनपदके लोगोंको दानशील, उदार, विनयी और लज्जाशील होना चाहिये
tatra tāta na teṣāṃ hi rājñāṃ bhāvyam asāmpratam
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Di sana, wahai anakku, pada saat ini tiada malapetaka dapat menimpa raja-raja itu. Kerana di mana sahaja Raja Yudhiṣṭhira bersemayam, para pemerintah kota atau negeri itu tidak akan ditimpa kebinasaan; dan di wilayah tempat Yudhiṣṭhira tinggal, rakyat sepatutnya bersifat dermawan, murah hati, rendah diri, dan memiliki rasa malu (kekangan moral).”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The presence of a dharmic ruler like Yudhiṣṭhira is portrayed as inherently auspicious: his righteousness protects the realm from calamity and sets a moral standard for society—encouraging generosity, humility, courtesy, and modest restraint.
Vaiśampāyana, narrating the events, emphasizes that wherever Yudhiṣṭhira is living (during the Virāṭa-period context), the surrounding kings need not fear misfortune, and the local populace is expected to embody refined virtues under such righteous leadership.
