न मेड्द्य वक्ष्यस्यतिवादिमानिन्‌ ग्लहं प्रपन्न: सरितामिवागम: । हुताशनस्येव समिद्धतेजस: स्थिरो भवस्वेह ममाद्य बन्दिन्‌,अपनेको अतिवादी माननेवाले बन्दी! तुमने पराजित हुए पण्डितोंको पानीमें डुबवा देनेका नियम कर रखा है, किंतु आज मेरे सामने तुम्हारी बोली बंद हो जायगी। जैसे प्रलयकालके प्रज्वलित अग्निके समीप नदियोंका प्रवाह सूख जाता है, उसी प्रकार मेरे सामने आनेपर तुम भी सूख जाओगे--तुम्हारी वादशक्ति नष्ट हो जायगी। बन्दी! आज मेरे सामने स्थिर होकर बैठो

na me ’dya vakṣyasy ativādimānin grahaṃ prapannaḥ saritām ivāgamaḥ | hutāśanasyeva samiddhatejasaḥ sthiro bhavasveha mamādya bandin ||

Aṣṭāvakra berkata: “Wahai Bandi, yang bermegah dengan pertikaian melampau—hari ini kata-katamu tidak akan menang. Seperti aliran sungai yang tertahan apabila bertemu arus yang perkasa, demikianlah banjir bicaramu akan disekat. Dan seperti anak-anak sungai mengering apabila mendekati api yang menyala marak, begitulah juga, apabila engkau datang menghadapku, daya debatmu akan padam. Duduklah di sini hari ini, teguh dan mantap, wahai Bandi.”
