Akṛtavraṇa’s Account Begins: Gādhi–Satyavatī–Ṛcīka and the Bhārgava Lineage Prelude
सा वै प्रसादयामास त॑ गुरुं पुत्रकारणात् | आत्मनश्रैव मातुश्च प्रसादं च चकार स:,सत्यवतीने श्वशुरको अपने और अपनी माताके लिये पुत्र-प्राप्तिका उद्देश्य रखकर प्रसन्न किया। तब भूगुजीने उसपर कृपादृष्टि की
sā vai prasādayāmāsa taṁ guruṁ putrakāraṇāt | ātmanas caiva mātuś ca prasādaṁ ca cakāra saḥ |
Dengan tujuan memperoleh seorang putera, dia berusaha meraih perkenan guru yang mulia itu. Demi kebajikan dirinya dan ibunya, dia berjaya menyenangkan hati baginda; lalu sang resi, berkenan, mengurniakan pandangan rahmat kepadanya.
अकृतव्रण उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical weight placed on lineage and family responsibility in the epic world: sincere, respectful approach to a worthy elder (guru) and seeking blessings for legitimate aims—here, offspring for oneself and one’s mother—can lead to prasāda (grace). It also implies that boons are not merely demanded but are obtained through humility and proper conduct.
A woman (referred to as ‘she’) approaches and pleases a revered preceptor, motivated by the desire to obtain a son. By winning his goodwill, she secures his favor; the sage, being pleased, looks upon her with compassion and grants his approval/blessing.
