Educational Q&A

The verse stresses kāla (right timing) and dharma-based resolve: when duty’s moment arrives, failing to act makes the opportunity meaningless. Those who are publicly honored must avoid disgraceful cruelty, and must be prepared to sacrifice even life rather than abandon righteous responsibility.

Vaiśampāyana narrates a forceful admonition addressed to ‘sons’: they are reminded that delay at the decisive moment is futile, that their public honor heightens accountability, and that if they fall into ruthless, shameful conduct they risk being renounced; therefore they should stand ready for the ultimate sacrifice when the time for action comes.
