Kṛṣṇa at Duryodhana’s House: Refusal of Hospitality and Departure to Vidura (कृष्णस्य धार्तराष्ट्रनिवेशनगमनम्)
पुत्रलोकात् पतिलोकं वृण्वाना सत्यवादिनी । प्रियान् पुत्रान् परित्यज्य पाण्डवाननुरुध्यते,'पुत्रलोकसे पतिलोकको श्रेष्ठ समझकर उसका वरण करनेवाली सत्यवादिनी द्रौपदी अपने प्यारे पुत्रोंको भी त्यागकर पाण्डवोंका अनुसरण करती है
putralokāt patilokaṁ vṛṇvānā satyavādinī | priyān putrān parityajya pāṇḍavān anurudhyate ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Draupadī yang berkata benar, memilih dunia suami sebagai lebih tinggi daripada dunia anak-anak; maka ditinggalkannya bahkan putera-puteranya yang dikasihi, lalu dengan teguh mengikuti para Pāṇḍava.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights a dharmic hierarchy of commitments: Draupadī, described as satyavādinī (truthful), prioritizes patiloka—allegiance to her husbands and their righteous course—over putraloka, the powerful pull of maternal attachment. It frames steadfast loyalty and principled adherence as virtues in a time of moral crisis.
Vaiśampāyana narrates Draupadī’s resolve: despite the pain of leaving her beloved sons, she chooses to accompany and support the Pāṇḍavas. The line underscores the gravity of the moment in Udyoga Parva, where choices are made under the shadow of the coming war.
