Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Reception Plan for Janārdana (Kṛṣṇa): Gifts, Procession, and Protocol
स चेत् तुष्यति दाशार्ह उपचारैररिंदम: । कृष्णात् स्निभिप्रायान् प्राप्स्याम: सर्वराजसु
sa cet tuṣyati dāśārha upacārair arindamaḥ | kṛṣṇāt snigdhīprāyān prāpsyāmaḥ sarvarājasu ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana berkata: “Jika Dāśārha—Śrī Kṛṣṇa, penunduk musuh—berkenan hati dengan penghormatan dan layanan tetamu kita, maka melalui Kṛṣṇa, di hadapan segala raja, kita akan memperoleh pemenuhan segala maksud kita.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights that respectful conduct and proper hospitality toward a righteous, influential person (here Kṛṣṇa) can secure legitimate support and success; ethical relationship-building is presented as a powerful means in statecraft.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war negotiations, the speaker frames a strategy: if Kṛṣṇa is pleased by their honors and attentions, his backing will help them achieve their objectives in the wider assembly of kings.
