Omens and Reception During Keśava’s Departure
प्रत्रजन्तोडनुधावन्तीं कृपणां पुत्रगृद्धिनीम् । रुदतीमपहायैनामगच्छाम वयं वनम्,जब हम वनको जा रहे थे, उस समय पुत्रस्नेहसे व्याकुल हो वह कातरभावसे रोती हुई हमारे पीछे-पीछे दौड़ी आ रही थी, परंतु हमलोग उसे वहीं छोड़कर वनमें चले गये
pratrajantod anudhāvantīṁ kṛpaṇāṁ putragṛddhinīm | rudatīm apahāyainām agacchāma vayaṁ vanam ||
Ketika kami berangkat menuju rimba, dia—malang kerana dukacita dan dikuasai rindu terhadap putera-puteranya—berlari mengejar kami sambil menangis tanpa daya. Namun kami meninggalkannya di situ dan meneruskan perjalanan masuk ke hutan, menanggung akibat pahit daripada perpisahan yang dituntut oleh dharma dan kewajipan kami sendiri.
युधिष्ठिर उवाच
The verse highlights the painful tension between dharma-driven action and human attachment: even when one believes a course is obligatory (going to the forest), it can inflict suffering on loved ones, leaving a moral residue of grief and responsibility that must be acknowledged.
Yudhiṣṭhira recalls the moment of departure for forest-exile: a mother, overwhelmed by love for her sons, runs after them crying, but the brothers proceed onward, leaving her behind as they continue into the wilderness.
