सहदेवस्तु माद्रेय: शूर: संक्रन्दनो युधि । स्वमंशं कल्पयामास श्यालं ते सुबलात्मजम्,महाराज! युद्धमें इन्द्रके समान पराक्रमी शूरवीर माद्रीनन्दन सहदेवने आपके साले सुबलपुत्र शकुनिको अपना भाग निश्चित किया है
sahadevas tu mādreyaḥ śūraḥ saṃkrandano yudhi | svam aṃśaṃ kalpayāmāsa śyālaṃ te subalātmajam, mahārāja |
Sañjaya berkata: “Wahai Raja, Sahadeva—wira putera Mādrī, gagah laksana Indra di medan perang—telah menandai sebagai lawan yang diperuntukkan baginya ipar tuanku, Śakuni, putera Subala.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights personal accountability within dharma: a warrior consciously accepts a defined responsibility in a righteous conflict, directing his effort toward the agent of wrongdoing (Śakuni) rather than acting aimlessly or vindictively.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Sahadeva has chosen Śakuni—Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s brother-in-law and a key instigator of the feud—as the opponent he will personally take on when war begins.
