Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 27 — Saṃjaya’s Counsel on Dharma, Desire, and the Non-Perishing of Karma

यहाँ धर्मके स्वामी, कुशल नीतिज्ञ, ब्राह्मणभक्त और मनीषी भगवान्‌ श्रीकृष्ण बैठे हैं, जो नाना प्रकारके महान्‌ बलशाली क्षत्रियों तथा भोजवंशियोंका शासन करते हैं। यदि मैं सामनीति अथवा संधिका परित्याग करके निन्दाका पात्र होता होऊँ या युद्धके लिये उद्यत होकर अपने धर्मका उल्लंघन करता होऊँ तो ये महायशस्वी वसुदेवनन्दन भगवान्‌ श्रीकृष्ण अपने विचार प्रकट करें; क्योंकि ये दोनों पक्षोंका हित चाहनेवाले हैं ।। शैनेयो<यं चेदयश्नान्धकाश्न वार्ष्णेयभोजा: कुकुरा: सृंजयाश्न । उपासीना वासुदेवस्य बुद्धि निगृहा शत्रून्‌ सुहदो नन्दयन्ति,ये सात्यकि, ये चेदिदेशके लोग, ये अन्धक, वृष्णि, भोज, कुकुर तथा सूंजयवंशके क्षत्रिय इन्हीं भगवान्‌ वासुदेवकी सलाहसे चलकर अपने शत्रुओंको बंदी बनाते और सुहृदोंको आनन्दित करते हैं

yudhiṣṭhira uvāca | iha dharmasya svāmī kuśalo nītijño brāhmaṇabhaktaś ca manīṣī bhagavān śrīkṛṣṇa upaviṣṭaḥ, yo nānāvidhān mahābalān kṣatriyān bhojavaṃśyāṃś ca śāsti | yadi ahaṃ sāmanītiṃ vā sandhiṃ vā parityajya nindāspadaṃ bhaveyaṃ, athavā yuddhāya samudyataḥ san svadharmaṃ laṅghayeyam, tadā mahāyaśā vāsudevanandano bhagavān śrīkṛṣṇaḥ svān vicārān prakāśayet; sa hi ubhayapakṣahitaṃ kāṅkṣati || śaineyo ’yaṃ cedayaś cāndhakāś ca vārṣṇeyabhojāḥ kukurāḥ sṛñjayāś ca vāsudevasya buddhim upāsīnāḥ śatrūn nigṛhṇanti suhṛdo nandayanti ||

Yudhiṣṭhira berkata: “Di sini duduk Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa—tuan dharma, mahir dalam nīti, pencinta Brāhmaṇa dan pemikir yang mendalam—yang memerintah pelbagai kṣatriya perkasa serta keturunan Bhoja. Jika aku, dengan meninggalkan dasar perdamaian atau jalan perjanjian, menjadi layak dicela; atau jika aku, kerana ghairah berperang, melanggar dharmaku sendiri—maka biarlah putera Vāsudeva, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa yang termasyhur, menyatakan pertimbangannya, kerana baginda menghendaki kebaikan kedua-dua pihak. Sesungguhnya Śaineya (Sātyaki), orang Cedi, Andhaka, Vṛṣṇi, Bhoja, Kukura dan Sṛñjaya—dengan mengikuti nasihat Vāsudeva—menundukkan musuh dan menggembirakan sahabat.”
