Dhṛtarāṣṭra–Saṃjaya Dialogue: Command to Proceed to Upaplavya
यथा राज्ञ: क्रोधदीप्तस्य सूत मन्योरहं भीततर: सदैव । महातपा ब्रह्मचर्येण युक्त: संकल्पो5यं मानसस्तस्य सिद्धयेत्
yathā rājñaḥ krodha-dīptasya sūta manyor ahaṃ bhīta-taraḥ sadaiva | mahā-tapā brahmacaryeṇa yuktaḥ saṅkalpo 'yaṃ mānasaḥ tasya sidhyet ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Wahai Sūta, aku sentiasa lebih takut akan murka raja itu apabila menyala-nyala daripada apa pun yang lain. Kerana baginda seorang pertapa agung, terdidik dengan brahmacarya; maka apa jua tekad yang timbul dalam fikirannya pasti akan terlaksana.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores that moral and ascetic discipline (tapas and brahmacarya) gives extraordinary efficacy to a person’s resolve; therefore, even a righteous king’s anger becomes especially formidable because his intentions tend to come true.
Vaiśaṃpāyana reports a speaker’s apprehension: the greatest fear is not ordinary martial power but the king’s blazing indignation, since the king is an austere, self-controlled figure whose mental resolve is believed to be unfailingly effective.
