Dhṛtarāṣṭra–Saṃjaya Dialogue: Command to Proceed to Upaplavya
दुर्योधनेन निकृतो मनस्वी नो चेत् क्रुद्ध: प्रदहेद् धार्तराष्ट्रान्ू । नाहं तथा हार्जुनाद् वासुदेवाद् भीमाद् वाहं यमयोर्वा बिभेमि
vaiśampāyana uvāca | duryodhanena nikṛto manasvī no cet kruddhaḥ pradhed dhārtarāṣṭrān | nāhaṃ tathā hārjunād vāsudevād bhīmād vāhaṃ yamayor vā bibhemi |
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Jika Yudhiṣṭhira yang berhati luhur, setelah diperdaya oleh Duryodhana, benar-benar bangkit murka, nescaya baginda mampu membakar kaum Dhārtarāṣṭra hingga menjadi abu. Aku tidak gentar akan Arjuna, tidak akan Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa), tidak akan Bhīma, bahkan tidak akan kedua putera kembar itu, sebagaimana aku gentar akan kemurkaan Yudhiṣṭhira. Amarahnya ditakuti kerana berakar pada daya tapa dan pengendalian diri yang teguh; apabila insan sedemikian menetapkan tekad di dalam hati, tekad itu pasti terlaksana.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Moral authority and self-restraint can make a person’s resolve more formidable than sheer physical might. Yudhiṣṭhira’s power is portrayed as arising from dharma and tapas; therefore, if he were to abandon restraint and become righteously angry, his determination would be unstoppable.
The speaker emphasizes that although warriors like Arjuna and Bhīma and even Kṛṣṇa are fearsome, the greatest fear is Yudhiṣṭhira’s potential wrath—especially after being deceived by Duryodhana—because a dharmic ascetic’s anger and resolve are believed to inevitably succeed.
