भीष्मस्वप्न-स्मृत्युपाख्यानम् | Bhīṣma’s Dream-Linked Recollection of the Paraśurāma Combat
न चैवमपि शक््नोमि भीष्म॑ शस्त्रभूतां वरम् । विशेषयितुमत्यर्थमुत्तमास्त्राणि दर्शयन्,परंतु इस प्रकार उत्तमोत्तम अस्त्र प्रकट करके भी मैं शस्त्रधारियोंमें श्रेष्ठ भीष्मसे अपनी अधिक विशिष्टता नहीं दिखा सका
na caivam api śaknomi bhīṣma śastrabhūtāṁ varam | viśeṣayitum atyartham uttamāstrāṇi darśayan |
Rāma berkata: “Namun demikian, wahai Bhishma—meskipun aku memperlihatkan senjata-senjata yang paling unggul—aku tetap tidak mampu menunjukkan kelebihan yang nyata atasmu, engkau yang terunggul antara para pemegang senjata.”
राम उवाच
True superiority is not proved merely by exhibiting powerful weapons; genuine excellence includes mastery, steadiness, and the recognition of another’s merit. The verse highlights ethical restraint and humility even amid martial rivalry.
Rama (Parashurama) addresses Bhishma, acknowledging that despite revealing the highest weapons, he could not decisively surpass Bhishma, whom he calls the foremost among armed warriors.
