Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 137 — Bhīṣma–Droṇa Counsel and the Ethics of Restraint
कृतास्त्रं हार्जुनं प्राप्प भीम॑ं च कृतनिश्चयम् । गाण्डीवं चेषुधी चैव रथं च ध्वजमेव च
vaiśampāyana uvāca | kṛtāstraṃ hārjunaṃ prāpya bhīmaṃ ca kṛtaniścayam | gāṇḍīvaṃ ceṣudhī caiva rathaṃ ca dhvajam eva ca |
Vaiśampāyana berkata: Setelah memperoleh Arjuna, yang sempurna dalam ilmu persenjataan, dan Bhīma, yang teguh azamnya untuk berperang—serta menggenggam busur Gāṇḍīva, tabung-tabung anak panah, kereta perang, dan panji—(para Pāṇḍava) berdiri lengkap bersenjata. Dalam bingkai dharma ini, bait tersebut menegaskan bahawa apabila para pahlawan yang benar telah bersiap dan disokong, kesalahan lampau tidak mudah diampunkan; pertanggungjawaban menyusul apabila dharma dipertahankan dengan kekuatan dan kesiapsiagaan.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights that dharma is upheld not only by moral claim but by readiness and steadfast resolve; when righteous defenders are fully equipped and united, wrongdoing meets firm accountability rather than easy forgiveness.
Vaiśampāyana describes the Pāṇḍava side as having secured key strengths—Arjuna skilled in weapons, Bhīma determined for battle, and the essential war-gear like the Gāṇḍīva, quivers, chariot, and banner—signaling complete preparedness for the coming conflict.
