Udyoga Parva, Adhyāya 13: Śacī’s Delay, Deva-Counsel, and Indra’s Purification

Educational Q&A

Power and status are not secured by mere attainment; they are sustained by dharma. Indra’s rightful order is restored, while Nahusha’s downfall is presented as the inevitable fruit of his own misconduct—an ethical warning against arrogance and unrighteous desire.

Nahusha speaks about the reversal of a temporary upheaval: Indra will regain his position among the gods without fear, whereas Nahusha—having acted wrongly—will meet destruction due to his own deeds.
