स्त्री-विलापः — गान्धार्याः रणभूमिदर्शनं शापवचनं च

Battlefield Lament and Gāndhārī’s Curse

अनाथवददविज्ञातो लोकेष्वनभिलक्षित: । कुत्सितेनाभ्युपायेन निधनं समवाप्स्यसि,मधुसूदन! आजसे छत्तीसवाँ वर्ष उपस्थित होनेपर तुम्हारे कुटुम्बी, मनन्‍्त्री और पुत्र सभी आपसमें लड़कर मर जायँगे। तुम सबसे अपरिचित और लोगोंकी आँखोंसे ओझल होकर अनाथके समान वनमें विचरोगे और किसी निन्दित उपायसे मृत्युको प्राप्त होओगे

anāthavad avijñāto lokeṣv anabhilakṣitaḥ | kutsitena abhyupāyena nidhanaṁ samavāpsyasi, madhusūdana | ājase chatrīśavāṁ varṣa upasthite bhavataḥ kuṭumbinaḥ mantrī ca putrāś ca sarve parasparaṁ yuddhvā mariṣyanti | tvaṁ sarvair aparicito lokānāṁ cakṣuṣor ojalībhūtaḥ anātha iva vane vicariṣyasi ca ninditena upāyena mṛtyuṁ prāpsyasi |

Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Tanpa dikenali, tanpa diperhatikan di kalangan manusia, engkau akan merayau seperti orang tanpa tempat bergantung. Wahai Madhusūdana, engkau akan menemui pengakhiran melalui cara yang memalukan. Apabila tahun yang ketiga puluh enam tiba, kaum kerabatmu, para menterimu, dan anak-anakmu akan saling berpaling menyerang lalu binasa dalam pertelingkahan sesama sendiri. Kemudian, tidak dikenali dan tersembunyi daripada mata dunia, engkau akan mengembara di rimba seperti anak yatim, dan akhirnya mati melalui jalan yang dikecam.”
