Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the tragic irony of worldly excellence: even those praised for extraordinary strength and valor fall in war. It frames heroism within the moral cost of conflict and the inevitability of loss, a key ethical atmosphere of the Strīparvan’s laments.

In the aftermath of the Kurukṣetra war, Gandhārī addresses Kṛṣṇa directly, recalling the formidable prowess of the fallen and emphasizing how such a lion-like warrior—nurtured by his father and supported by Kṛṣṇa—has nevertheless been brought down, intensifying her grief and reproachful sorrow.
