Vāmadeva’s Counsel on Rooted Kingship and Non-violent Victory (वामदेवोपदेशः—दृढमूलराजधर्मः)

Educational Q&A

A ruler succeeds with minimal coercion when his soldiers are content, reassured, and well-organized; humane care and sound discipline reduce the need for harsh punishment.

Vāmadeva is instructing on royal policy in the Śānti Parva, explaining that effective rule and conquest depend on maintaining the satisfaction, confidence, and proper establishment of the king’s warriors.
