युधिष्ठिरस्य राज्याभिषेकः | Yudhiṣṭhira’s Royal Consecration
काज्चनोदुम्बरास्तत्र राजता: पृथिवीमया: । पूर्णकुम्भा: सुमनसो लाजा बहींषि गोरसम्
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
kāñcanoḍumbarās tatra rājatāḥ pṛthivīmayāḥ |
pūrṇakumbhāḥ sumanasaḥ lājā barhīṃṣi gorasam ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Di sana mereka menghimpunkan keperluan bertuah bagi upacara—bejana dan peralatan daripada emas, perak, bahkan daripada tanah; tempayan (kumbha) yang penuh melimpah; bunga-bungaan harum; bijirin sangai (lājā); ikatan rumput darbha yang suci; serta susu lembu. Barang-barang ini, dikumpulkan sebagai bahan pentahbisan, menandakan suatu usaha yang khidmat dan dituntun dharma: menekankan kesucian, kelimpahan, dan tatacara yang benar, bukan semata-mata pertunjukan.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores that major undertakings—especially those tied to governance and social order—should be grounded in dharma through proper, pure, and auspicious ritual preparation. Ethical legitimacy is reinforced by right procedure, restraint, and sanctity rather than by force or mere wealth.
Vaiśampāyana describes the collection and bringing of consecratory and ritual materials—full pots, flowers, parched grains, sacred grass, milk, and vessels of various metals and clay—indicating preparations for a formal rite (such as a consecration/abhiṣeka or related ceremonial act).
