अध्याय ३५१ — उञ्छवृत्ति-व्रतसिद्धेः मानुषस्य परमगतिः

कथान्तरे5थ कम्मिंश्षित्‌ पृष्टोडस्माभिद्धिजोत्तम: | वेदार्थान्‌ भारतार्थाश्व॒ जन्म नारायणात्‌ तथा,एक दिन किसी बातचीतके प्रसंगमें हमलोगोंने द्विजश्रेष्ठ व्यासजीसे वेदों और महाभारतका अर्थ तथा भगवान्‌ नारायणसे उनके जन्म होनेका वृत्तान्त पूछा

kathāntare 'tha kasmiṁścit pṛṣṭo 'smābhir dvijottamaḥ | vedārthān bhāratārthāṁś ca janma nārāyaṇāt tathā ||

Vaiśampāyana berkata: Pada suatu ketika, dalam sela perbualan, kami menyoal Vyāsa—yang terbaik dalam kalangan dwija—tentang makna Veda dan Mahābhārata, serta kisah kelahirannya yang berpunca daripada Nārāyaṇa.
