Mahāvasu’s Fall by Speech-Error and Release through Devotion (अज-विवादः वसोः शापः विमोचनं च)
इतिहासं च कार्त्स्न्येन राजशास्त्राणि वा विभो । गुरवे दक्षिणां दत्त्वा समावृत्तो महामुनि:
itihāsaṃ ca kārtsnyena rājaśāstrāṇi vā vibho | gurave dakṣiṇāṃ dattvā samāvṛtto mahāmuniḥ ||
“Wahai yang perkasa, setelah menguasai sepenuhnya itihāsa (riwayat tradisi) dan risalah-risalah tentang tata pemerintahan raja (rājaśāstra), sang resi agung itu, setelah mempersembahkan dakṣiṇā—upah guru menurut ketetapan—kepada gurunya, pun kembali, menamatkan disiplin pengajiannya.”
भीष्म उवाच
True learning is shown not only by mastering knowledge—here, itihāsa and rājaśāstra—but also by ethical completion of discipleship: honoring the teacher through dakṣiṇā and returning as a disciplined, socially responsible graduate (samāvṛtta).
Bhīṣma describes a great sage who has thoroughly studied traditional narratives and the science of kingship under a guru; after giving the customary teacher’s fee, he formally concludes his training and returns.
