Śuka’s Guṇa-Transcendence and Vyāsa’s Consolation (शुकगति-वर्णनम्)

न वर्गस्था ब्रवीम्येतत्‌ स्वपक्षपरपक्षयो: । मुक्तो व्यायच्छते यश्व शान्तौ यश्च न शाम्याति

na vargasthā bravīmy etat svapakṣaparapakṣayoḥ | mukto vyāyacchate yaś ca śāntau yaś ca na śāmyati |

Bhīṣma berkata: “Aku tidak mengatakan ini sebagai orang yang berdiri dalam mana-mana puak—sama ada pihak sendiri atau pihak lawan. Aku berkata tanpa berat sebelah, demi kebaikanmu. Kerana orang yang benar-benar bebas ialah dia yang tidak bersusah payah dalam pameran kata-kata semata-mata dan yang berdiam dalam ketenteraman; sesiapa yang belum tenang, belumlah merdeka.”
