चिरकारि-उपाख्यानम् / The Exemplum of Cirakārī: Deliberation Before Irreversible Action
असाधुभ्यो5स्य न भयं न चौरेभ्यो न राजतः । अकिंचित् कस्यचित् कुर्वन् निर्भय: शुचिरावसेत्
bhīṣma uvāca | asādhubhyo 'sya na bhayaṃ na caurebhyo na rājataḥ | akiṃcit kasyacit kurvan nirbhayaḥ śucir āvaset ||
Bhishma berkata: Bagi orang yang tidak menyakiti sesiapa, tiada ketakutan daripada orang jahat, tiada daripada pencuri, bahkan daripada raja sekalipun. Dengan kesucian tingkah laku dan fikiran, orang demikian sentiasa hidup tanpa gentar.
भीष्म उवाच
One who refrains from harming others and maintains inner and outer purity becomes naturally fearless—social threats (wicked people, thieves) and even coercive power (the king) lose their hold over a blameless person.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on dharma after the war, Bhishma advises Yudhishthira on ethical living: harmlessness and purity of conduct are presented as the basis of security and fearlessness in society.
