जीवितं जीवलोकस्य कालेनागम्य नीयते । “धन और भोग नष्ट हो जाते हैं। स्थान और ऐश्वर्य छिन जाता है तथा इस जीव-जगतके जीवनको भी काल आकर हर ले जाता है

jīvitaṃ jīvalokasya kālenāgamya nīyate |

Bhīṣma berkata: Nyawa segala makhluk di dunia yang hidup ini akan dibawa pergi apabila Masa (Kāla) tiba. Kekayaan dan kenikmatan lenyap; kedudukan dan kedaulatan dirampas; dan akhirnya, bahkan hidup itu sendiri diambil oleh Masa—maka janganlah berpaut pada kuasa dan milik yang sementara, tetapi halakan diri kepada dharma dan apa yang kekal melampaui perubahan.
