जापक–इक्ष्वाकु–सत्यविवादः

The Jāpaka, Ikṣvāku, and the Dispute on Truth and Merit

असद्धयो दीयते यत्तु तद्‌ दानमिह भुज्यते । यादृशं दीयते दानं तादृश॑ फलमश्चुते,दान दो प्रकारका बताया जाता है--एक परलोकके लिये है और दूसरा इहलोकके लिये। सत्पुरुषोंको जो कुछ दिया जाता है, वह दान परलोकमें अपना फल देनेके लिये उपस्थित होता है और असत्पुरुषोंको जो दान दिया जाता है, उसका फल यहीं भोगा जाता है। जैसा दान दिया जाता है, वैसा ही उसका फल भी भोगनेमें आता है

Bharadvāja uvāca: asaddhyo dīyate yat tu tad dānam iha bhujyate | yādṛśaṃ dīyate dānaṃ tādṛśaṃ phalam aśnute ||

“Namun apa jua sedekah yang diberikan kepada orang yang tidak layak, sedekah itu dinikmati hasilnya di dunia ini juga. Apa jua bentuk pemberian, demikianlah juga buah yang diperoleh.”
