Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma expressed through hospitality and generosity: honouring worthy guests (especially Brahmins) is not merely verbal respect but tangible giving—so complete that even the serving vessels may be offered—signifying humility, gratitude, and the prioritizing of righteous giving over possessiveness.

Bhishma recounts a scene in which Brahmins have been fed, and the host instructs them to take away the very utensils in which they ate, along with other gifts. The act dramatizes exemplary guest-honour and lavish dāna as part of righteous conduct.
