Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical ideal of kṛtārthatā—bringing one’s duty and intended task to completion. It affirms that fulfillment is measured by finishing what is rightfully undertaken, leaving no pending obligation.

Bhīṣma addresses a listener respectfully as “saumya,” stating that the listener’s objective has been achieved and that Bhīṣma (and his side/companions) likewise consider their own purpose completed—signaling closure in the counsel or undertaking being discussed.
