Educational Q&A

Extraordinary portents (utpātas) are presented as moral and psychological signals: they awaken vigilance, humility, and awareness of the destructive consequences of adharma and war. The verse highlights how even the righteous are shaken when the world seems to warn of impending calamity.

After witnessing uncanny and ominous phenomena, the Pāñcālas—along with the Pāṇḍavas—become deeply unsettled in their minds. The narrative uses their inner agitation to intensify the sense that a critical, dangerous turn in the war is near.
