Śālva’s Elephant Assault and the Counterstroke (शाल्वस्य नागारूढाभ्यवहारः)
मयि स्थिते च समरे निरुद्धेषु च पाण्डुषु पुनरावर्तते तूर्ण मापकं बलमोजसा,“जब मैं समरांगणमें खड़ा होऊँगा और पाण्डवोंका बढ़ाव रुक जायगा, तब मेरी सेना पुनः शीघ्र ही लौट आयेगी और सारी शक्ति लगाकर युद्ध करेगी”
mayi sthite ca samare niruddheṣu ca pāṇḍuṣu punarāvartate tūrṇaṃ māmakaṃ balam ojasā
Sañjaya berkata: “Apabila aku berdiri teguh di medan perang dan kemaraan para Pāṇḍava dapat disekat, maka bala tentera kita akan segera berpatah balik, menghimpun seluruh tenaga, lalu menyambung pertempuran dengan kekuatan yang diperbaharui.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights a wartime ethic of resolve and morale: steadfast leadership on the field is presented as capable of checking the enemy’s momentum and restoring one’s own army’s confidence, so that it returns to action with renewed vigor.
Sañjaya reports a tactical expectation: once the speaker stands firm in the battle and the Pāṇḍavas’ forward surge is halted, the Kaurava forces—having recoiled or scattered—will quickly regroup, return, and fight again with full energy.
