Rājasūyābhiṣeka-darśana: Duryodhana’s Observation of the Consecration

विदुर! मेरा निश्चय तुम युधिष्ठिससे न बताना; यह बात मैं तुमसे कहे देता हूँ। मैं दैवको भी प्रबल मानता हूँ, जिसकी प्रेरणासे यह द्यूतक्रीड़ाका आरम्भ होने जा रहा है ।। इत्युक्तो विदुरो धीमान्‌ नेदमस्तीति चिन्तयन्‌ | आपपगेयं महाप्राज्ञमभ्यगच्छत्‌ सुदु:खित:

dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca |

vidura! mama niścayaṁ tvaṁ yudhiṣṭhirāya mā brūyāḥ; etad ahaṁ tubhyaṁ nivedayāmi | ahaṁ daivam api prabalaṁ manye, yasya prerayā dyūtakrīḍāyā ārambho bhavitum ārabhyate ||

ity ukto viduro dhīmān nedam astīti cintayan | āpapageyaṁ mahāprājñam abhyagacchat suduḥkhitaḥ ||

Dhṛtarāṣṭra berkata: “Vidura, jangan engkau nyatakan tekadku kepada Yudhiṣṭhira; ini kukatakan dengan jelas kepadamu. Aku juga menganggap Takdir itu amat berkuasa—atas dorongannya, pertaruhan ini akan bermula.” Mendengar demikian, Vidura yang bijaksana—berfikir, “Ini tidak benar”—lalu mendekati insan yang paling berhati-hati (Yudhiṣṭhira), dengan hati yang dilanda dukacita.
