Book 2, Chapter 35
इदं व: सुमहच्चैव यदिहास्ति धनं मम । प्रणयन्तु भवन्तो मां यथेष्टमभिमन्त्रिता:,यहाँ मेरा जो यह महान् धन है, उसे आपलोग मेरी प्रार्थना मानकर इच्छानुसार सत्कर्मोमें लगाइये
idaṃ vaḥ sumahac caiva yad ihāsti dhanaṃ mama | praṇayantu bhavanto māṃ yatheṣṭam abhimāntritāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Inilah harta bendaku yang besar, yang ada di sini—aku persembahkan kepada tuan-tuan sekalian. Setelah dijemput dengan penuh hormat, terimalah aku dengan kasih mesra, dan gunakanlah harta ini menurut pertimbangan tuan-tuan bagi tujuan-tujuan yang benar menurut dharma.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Wealth is ethically meaningful when offered with humility and directed toward satkarman—right and beneficial actions. The verse frames giving not as display but as goodwill (praṇaya) and responsible allocation according to dharma.
In the course of the Sabha Parva narration, a speaker expresses deference to honored recipients, offering his substantial wealth and requesting that it be used as they see fit for worthy purposes—an act of respectful giving and social obligation.
