Shloka 86

धर्मप्रधानं किल पाति धर्म इत्यब्रुवन्‌ धर्मविद: सदैव । वयं च धर्मे प्रयताम नित्यं चर्तु यथाशक्ति यथाश्रुतं च । स चापि निधघ्नाति न पाति भक्तान्‌ मन्ये न नित्यं परिपाति धर्म:,“धर्मज्ञ पुरुषोंने सदा ही यह बात कही है कि “धर्मपरायण पुरुषकी धर्म सदा रक्षा करता है। हम अपनी शक्ति और ज्ञानके अनुसार सदा धर्मपालनके लिये प्रयत्न करते रहते हैं, किंतु वह भी हमें मारता ही है, भक्तोंकी रक्षा नहीं करता; अतः मैं समझता हूँ, धर्म सदा किसीकी रक्षा नहीं करता है”

dharma-pradhānaṃ kila pāti dharma ity abruvan dharma-vidaḥ sadaiva | vayaṃ ca dharme prayatāma nityaṃ cartu yathāśakti yathāśrutaṃ ca | sa cāpi nidhaghnāti na pāti bhaktān manye na nityaṃ paripāti dharmaḥ |

Sañjaya berkata: “Orang yang mengetahui dharma selalu menyatakan, ‘Dharma pasti melindungi orang yang setia kepada dharma.’ Kami juga sentiasa berusaha menegakkan dharma, bertindak sedaya upaya menurut kekuatan dan apa yang telah kami pelajari. Namun dharma seakan-akan menimpa kami dan tidak melindungi para pemujanya. Maka aku berpendapat, dharma tidak semestinya melindungi setiap orang pada setiap waktu.”
