समभ्यधावद् वृषसेनमाहवे स सूतजस्य प्रमुखे स्थितस्तदा । तदनन्तर शत्रुवीरोंका संहार करनेवाले मानवलोकके प्रमुख वीर किरीटधारी अर्जुनने समस्त सेनाओंके बीच माद्रीकुमार नकुलके घोड़ोंको वृषसेनद्वारा मारा गया और भगवान् श्रीकृष्णको अत्यन्त घायल हुआ देख युद्धस्थलमें वृषसेनपर धावा किया। वृषसेन उस समय कर्णके सामने खड़ा था
sa samabhyadhāvad vṛṣasenam āhave sa sūtajasya pramukhe sthitas tadā | tad-anantaraṃ śatru-vīrāṇāṃ saṃhāra-karaṇe mānava-lokasya pramukha-vīraḥ kirīṭadhārī arjunaḥ samasta-senānāṃ madhye mādrī-kumāra-nakulasya ghodān vṛṣasenena māritān bhagavantaṃ śrī-kṛṣṇaṃ cātyanta-ghāyitaṃ dṛṣṭvā yuddha-sthale vṛṣasene par dhāvāṃ cakāra | vṛṣasenaḥ saṃprati karṇasya sammukhe tiṣṭhatīti ||
Sañjaya berkata: Lalu Arjuna, si pemakai diadema—wira terunggul di kalangan manusia dan pemusnah jawara musuh—menerjang Vṛṣasena di medan perang. Melihat di tengah-tengah bala tentera bahawa Vṛṣasena telah membunuh kuda-kuda Nakula, putera Mādrī, dan bahawa Dewa Śrī Kṛṣṇa telah cedera parah, Arjuna pun meluru ke atas Vṛṣasena dalam sengitnya pertempuran. Pada saat itu Vṛṣasena berdiri di hadapan Karṇa.
संजय उवाच
The passage highlights the kṣatriya ethic of immediate response to grave harm on the battlefield: Arjuna’s duty-driven resolve intensifies when he witnesses the loss of an ally’s resources (Nakula’s horses) and danger to his charioteer and guide, Kṛṣṇa. It frames righteous warfare as protection of one’s side and swift confrontation of a threatening adversary.
In the midst of the fighting, Vṛṣasena (Karṇa’s son) has killed Nakula’s horses and Kṛṣṇa is seen badly wounded. Arjuna, identified by his diadem, charges directly at Vṛṣasena. Vṛṣasena is positioned before Karṇa, indicating Arjuna’s assault also presses toward Karṇa’s immediate front.
