श्रूयन्ते विविधा राजन् नामान्युद्धिश्य भारत । भरतवंशी नरेश! उस समय नाम ले-लेकर गरजते हुए शूरवीरोंकी भाँति-भाँतिकी बातें अविच्छिन्न-रूपसे सुनायी पड़ती थीं
śrūyante vividhā rājan nāmāny uddiśya bhārata | bharatavaṃśī nareśa! usa samaya nāma le-lekara garjate hue śūravīroṃ kī bhānti-bhānti kī bāteṃ avicchinna-rūpa se sunāyī paṛtī thīṃ
Sañjaya berkata: “Wahai Raja, wahai Bharata, kedengaran pelbagai jeritan—para pahlawan mengaum sambil menyebut nama. Wahai pemerintah keturunan Bharata, pada saat itu medan perang bergema tanpa putus dengan laungan dan sahut-menyahut yang beraneka, bagaikan panggilan menggelegar para wira yang saling menyebut nama.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the kṣatriya battlefield ethos: warriors openly identify and challenge one another by name, emphasizing courage, accountability, and the public nature of martial honor—while also underscoring the relentless, consuming atmosphere of war.
Sanjaya reports to the king that the field of battle is filled with continuous, varied sounds—heroes roaring and calling out names—conveying the intensity and unbroken momentum of the fighting.
