कर्णेन युधिष्ठिरानीकविदारणम् / Karṇa’s Breach of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Battle-Line
ततःप्रभृति भद्रं ते गवां द्वैधीकृता: खुरा: । हयानां च सतना राजंस्तदाप्रभूति नाभवन्
tataḥprabhṛti bhadraṃ te gavāṃ dvaidhīkṛtāḥ khurāḥ | hayānāṃ ca satanā rājan tadāprabhūti nābhavan |
Sejak saat itu—semoga sejahtera atasmu—kuku lembu menjadi terbelah dua; dan, wahai raja, sejak ketika itu juga kuda-kuda tidak lagi berkuku padu yang tidak terbahagi. Kata-kata ini menandai perubahan kekal pada tertib alam, seolah-olah perbuatan dan keadaan kosmik meninggalkan jejak yang berpanjangan pada dunia.
पितामह उवाच
The verse conveys an etiological moral: certain decisive events and the conduct surrounding them can imprint enduring consequences on the natural world, suggesting a linkage between ethical-cosmic order and observable features of creation.
Bhīṣma addresses a king and explains that from a particular turning point onward, cattle came to have split (cloven) hooves, while horses ceased to have solid, undivided hooves—framing a permanent change as a remembered consequence of earlier happenings.
