कर्णस्य दानप्रतिज्ञा–शल्योपदेश–वाक्ययुद्धम्

अभ्यवर्तन्त सहसा परीप्सन्तो नराधिपम्‌ । उसे संकटमें पड़ा देख कर्ण, अश्वत्थामा तथा कृपाचार्य आदि वीर अपने राजाकी रक्षा चाहते हुए सहसा युधिष्ठिरके सामने आ पहुँचे

abhyavartanta sahasā parīpsanto narādhipam |

Sañjaya berkata: “Melihat raja terperangkap dalam bahaya, Karṇa, Aśvatthāmā, Kṛpācārya dan para pahlawan lain—berhasrat melindungi pemerintah mereka—segera menyerbu untuk berhadapan dengan Yudhiṣṭhira. Detik itu menegaskan etika medan perang: kesetiaan kepada raja dan sahabat seperjuangan, walau keadaan sedang runtuh.”
