अभयं सर्वभूतानां प्रददौ योगमीयिवान्‌ । महाराज! यह कहकर उन्होंने वहाँ अश्वत्थामाका नाम ले-लेकर पुकारा। फिर सारे अस्त्र-शस्त्रोंकी रणभूमिमें फेंककर वे रथके पिछले भागमें जा बैठे। फिर उन्होंने सम्पूर्ण भूतोंको अभयदान दे दिया और समाधि लगा ली

abhayaṁ sarvabhūtānāṁ pradadau yogam īyivān | mahārāja, iti uktvā sa tatra aśvatthāmānam nāma-nāma gṛhītvā papraccha/āhvayat | tataḥ sarvāṇi astrāṇi śastrāṇi ca raṇabhūmau nikṣipya sa rathasya paścād-bhāge upāviśat | punaḥ sa sarvabhūtānām abhaya-dānaṁ kṛtvā samādhiṁ lebhe ||

Sañjaya berkata: Pahlawan yang teguh dalam yoga itu mengurniakan ketakutan lenyap kepada semua makhluk. Wahai Maharaja, setelah berkata demikian, dia memanggil nama Ashvatthama berulang-ulang. Kemudian dia mencampakkan semua senjata ke medan perang dan duduk di bahagian belakang keretanya. Sesudah itu, dengan ikrar tidak mencederakan dan memberi keselamatan kepada segala makhluk, dia pun masuk ke dalam samadhi yang mendalam.
