शुक्लाभिजनकर्माणो मतिमन्तो जनाधिप । धर्मयुद्धमयुध्यन्त प्रेप्सन्तो गतिमुत्तमाम्,जनेश्वर! उन सबके वंश शुद्ध और कर्म निष्कलंक थे; अतः वे बुद्धिमान् योद्धा उत्तम गति पानेकी इच्छासे धर्मयुद्धमें तत्पर हो गये
sañjaya uvāca | śuklābhijanakarmāṇo matimanto janādhipa | dharmayuddham ayudhyanta prepsanto gatim uttamām ||
Sañjaya berkata: Wahai raja, para pahlawan itu berketurunan suci dan perbuatan mereka tidak bernoda; maka, dengan kebijaksanaan, mereka bersiap dalam dharma-yuddha—perang yang benar—dengan hasrat mencapai keadaan yang tertinggi.
संजय उवाच
The verse asserts that when one’s lineage and conduct are pure and one acts with discernment, even participation in war can be framed as dharma—duty performed without moral stain—aimed at a higher destiny rather than personal gain.
Sañjaya reports to the king that certain warriors, described as noble and blameless, have committed themselves to fighting in what is presented as a dharma-guided battle, motivated by the hope of attaining the highest posthumous or spiritual state.
