The verse highlights the moral psychology of war: combat can breed durmada—reckless pride and intoxication with violence—yet the speaker frames the encounter as a duty-bound facing of formidable opponents, underscoring the tension between kṣatriya obligation and the ethical danger of arrogance.
Sañjaya, reporting events to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra, describes the resolve to meet numerous battle-proud warriors in the ongoing conflict of the Kurukṣetra war, emphasizing the scale and ferocity of the confrontation.
