भीष्मस्य भीमसेन-निरोधः
Bhīṣma checks Bhīmasena; matched engagements intensify
महोरग वराहाद्य हरिकेश विभो जय । हरिवास दिशामीश विश्ववासामिताव्यय
mahoraga-varāhādya harikeśa vibho jaya | harivāsa diśāmīśa viśvavāsāmitāvyaya ||
Bhīṣma memuji Tuhan Yang Maha Tinggi: “Kemenangan bagi-Mu, wahai Hari-keśa, Penguasa yang meliputi segalanya—Engkau yang mengambil rupa ular agung (Śeṣa) dan babi hutan perkasa (Varāha), punca asal segala sesuatu. Wahai Tuhan berselimut pakaian kuning, penguasa segala arah, penopang alam semesta—tidak terukur dan tidak binasa—kemenangan bagi-Mu.”
भीष्म उवाच
Even amid the violence and uncertainty of Kurukṣetra, Bhīṣma anchors dharma in devotion to the imperishable Lord who sustains the cosmos and manifests in protective forms (Śeṣa, Varāha). The ethical thrust is that true order and refuge lie in the eternal source beyond transient power.
Bhīṣma is offering a hymn of praise (stuti) to the Supreme Lord identified with Hari/Harikeśa, celebrating divine attributes—cosmic sovereignty, support of the universe, and incarnation-like forms—within the Bhīṣma Parva’s war setting.
