Droṇa–Dhṛṣṭadyumna-yuddha (द्रोण-धृष्टद्युम्न-युद्धम्) — Tactical duel and allied interventions
śakuniḥ prativindhyaṃ tu parākrāntaṃ parākramī | abhyadravat rājendra mattaḥ siṃha iva dvipam ||
Sañjaya berkata: Wahai Raja, Śakuni yang gagah melihat Prativindhya mara dengan kekuatan, lalu menerpa terus kepadanya—bagaikan singa mabuk yang menyerbu seekor gajah.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how, in war, sheer valor and battle-frenzy propel fighters into head-on clashes. Ethically, it hints at the tragic intensity of Kurukṣetra, where courage can become reckless aggression, and the momentum of conflict can overpower restraint.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Śakuni, a powerful Kaurava warrior, charges at Prativindhya, who is advancing strongly. The encounter is compared to a frenzied lion attacking an elephant, emphasizing the ferocity of the assault.
