Shloka 10

(एवं बहुसहसैश्व योधानां युद्धशालिनाम्‌ । संवृत: शकुनिस्तस्थौ युद्धायैव सुदंशित: ।।) इस प्रकार युद्धभूमिमें शोभा पानेवाले कई हजार योद्धाओंसे घिरा हुआ शकुनि कवच धारण करके युद्धके लिये ही वहाँ खड़ा हो गया। नकुलं सहदेवं च धर्मराजं च पाण्डवम्‌ | न्यवारयन्नरश्रेष्ठान्‌ परिवार्य समन्तत:,राजन्‌! शकुनि नकुल, सहदेव तथा धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर--इन तीनों श्रेष्ठ पुरुषोंको सब ओरसे घेरकर इन्हें आगे बढ़नेसे रोकने लगा

evaṁ bahusahasraiś ca yodhānāṁ yuddhaśālinām |

saṁvṛtaḥ śakunir tasthau yuddhāyaiva sudaṁśitaḥ ||

nakulaṁ sahadevaṁ ca dharmarājaṁ ca pāṇḍavam |

nyavārayann araśreṣṭhān parivārya samantataḥ ||

Sañjaya berkata: Demikianlah, dikelilingi ribuan pahlawan yang menyerlah di medan laga, Shakuni berdiri teguh, lengkap berzirah, dengan niat tunggal: bertempur. Wahai Raja, dari segenap penjuru dia mengepung dan menahan kemaraan para utama—Nakula, Sahadeva, dan Yudhishthira, raja dharma di pihak Pāṇḍava—berhasrat menyekat gerak mereka di tengah himpitan perang.
