Kāma–Mamatā–Upadeśa
Discourse on Desire, Possessiveness, and Ritual Duty
ऑपन- मा बछ। अकाल त्रयोदशो<* ध्याय: श्रीकृष्णद्वारा ममताके त्यागका महत्त्व
vāyudeva uvāca | na bāhyūn dravyam utsṛjya siddhir bhavati bhārata | śārīraṁ dravyam utsṛjya siddhir bhavati vā na vā ||
Vāyudeva berkata: “Wahai Bhārata, kesempurnaan (siddhi) tidak dicapai semata-mata dengan meninggalkan milik luaran seperti kerajaan dan harta. Bahkan jika seseorang meninggalkan apa yang berkaitan dengan tubuh, kesempurnaan boleh muncul—atau boleh juga tidak—bergantung pada sikap batin dan kefahaman.”
वायुदेव उवाच
Renunciation of external possessions alone does not guarantee spiritual accomplishment; even bodily austerity or bodily renunciation is not automatically fruitful unless accompanied by the right inner understanding, intention, and disciplined mind.
Vāyudeva addresses Yudhiṣṭhira (called ‘Bhārata’) and frames a teaching on the limits of mere outward renunciation, preparing the ethical ground for guidance on right action and the proper spirit in which duties—such as royal and sacrificial responsibilities—should be undertaken.
