अनुशासनपर्व अध्याय ९३ — तपस्, सदोपवास, विघसाशन, अतिथिप्रियता

Austerity, regulated fasting, residual-eating, and hospitality

भरतश्रेष्ठस अब जिनका वर्णन किया जा रहा है, इन सबको पंक्तिपावन जानना चाहिये। इनका वर्णन इसलिये करूँगा कि तुम ब्राह्मणोंकी श्राद्धमें परीक्षा कर सको ।।

bhīṣma uvāca | vidyāvedavratāsnātā brāhmaṇāḥ sarva eva hi | sadācāraparāś caiva vijñeyāḥ sarvapāvanāḥ ||

Bhīṣma bersabda: Semua Brāhmaṇa yang telah menyempurnakan pelajaran serta ikrar-ikrar disiplin Veda, dan yang tekun dalam adab yang baik (sadācāra), hendaklah dikenali sebagai penyuci dalam segala hal. Aku menghuraikan mereka agar engkau dapat menilai siapakah brāhmaṇa yang layak dihormati dalam upacara śrāddha.
