Merits of Cow-Gift and the Origin-Account of Kapilā Cows
एतत् ते सर्वमाख्यातं निपुणेन सुरेश्वर । गोप्रदानरतानां तु फलं शृणु शतक्रतो
etat te sarvam ākhyātaṁ nipuṇena sureśvara | gopradānaratānāṁ tu phalaṁ śṛṇu śatakrato ||
Bhīṣma berkata: “Wahai tuan para dewa, semuanya telah aku jelaskan kepadamu dengan terperinci dan tepat. Sekarang, wahai Śatakratu, dengarlah hasil yang diperoleh oleh mereka yang bergembira dalam sedekah lembu.”
पितामह उवाच
The verse frames cow-gifting (go-pradāna) as a significant dharmic act and signals a shift from praising Goloka to explaining the specific spiritual merit (phala) gained by those devoted to such charity.
Bhīṣma, addressing Indra (called Sureśvara and Śatakratu), concludes a detailed account of Goloka’s greatness and introduces the next topic: the results promised to donors of cows.
