Bhūmi-dānasya Māhātmya

The Pre-eminence of Land-Gift

तडागं सुकृतं यस्य वसन्ते तु महाश्रयम्‌ । अतितात्रस्य यज्ञस्य फलं स समुपाश्चुते

taḍāgaṃ sukṛtaṃ yasya vasante tu mahāśrayam | atirātrasya yajñasya phalaṃ sa samupāśnute ||

Bhishma berkata: “Sesiapa yang membina sebuah kolam yang elok—yang menakung air hingga musim bunga lalu menjadi tempat perlindungan besar bagi makhluk yang dahaga—maka dia memperoleh pahala setara dengan korban suci Atirātra. Ajaran ini mengangkat kebajikan awam dan belas ihsan sebagai dharma yang nilainya sebanding dengan upacara Veda yang agung.”
